Comments

Godron 1949a suggests that the additional symbols in the serekh are not part of the king's name, but are included there only for convenience of composition.

Editor's Note:
Inscriptions 0106 and 0107 appear to come from the same seal. Their division into two inscriptions, as in Kahl (1994) and Regulski, first began with Kaplony. Kaplony (1963: 65) describes these two inscriptions as similar but divides them into two variants (1963: 1098): 35A and 35B. While inscription 35A has a serekh measuring 2.5 cm wide, the sealing fragments that he groups together as inscription 35B are four small fragments whose width he could not determine. Disparities in width, however, might be the result of the sealing process, which could vary depending on the person and sealing mud. The fact that these two inscriptions are similar in every other way, and that they were found in the same tomb, strengthens the argument that they are in fact the same inscription. I am grateful to Jean-Pierre Pätznick for pointing this out to me.
